The riverside tennis courts were not just a sports center with 70 years of history. They were a living part of our city, a green oasis, and a sanctuary where entire generations spent their childhood and youth. For me and many other Tbilisi residents, such a harsh intrusion into the city’s memory is completely unacceptable. Why must we destroy the old when there are so many other spaces available for new development? New buildings could easily be built elsewhere, which would help develop and expand new neighborhoods without wiping out our past.People’s deep connection to old places is not just simple nostalgia—it is our roots and our identity. That is why it is so painful when they try to replace your history with something new.Today, passing by that area makes my heart ache. Along with that beautiful space, the entire recreational environment of the riverside was lost, nearly 220 trees were cut down, and the old, warm face of our city disappeared. It is incredibly painful when you close your eyes and still remember the red clay courts, the sports fields surrounded by green treetops, the lovely rose bushes, the people, and that familiar, rhythmic sound of the tennis balls… Every single time I pass by this place, the feeling of longing and loss hits me all over again.  K.T.
