Demolished 2001

The Kunsthalle is an exhibition hall for contemporary art in Vienna. The first Kunsthalle was intended as a temporary structure and was the creation of architect Adolf Krishanitz. It was shaped like a container and could be accessed by turquoise steel pedestrian tubular bridges that continued into the interior. The alternately controversial and beloved yellow building stood on the Karlsplatz in Vienna from 1992 to 2001 when it was demolished and replaced by a glass pavilion. Since 2001, the Kunsthalle has also maintained its headquarters in the Museumsquartier (museum district). This painting is based on a photograph by Margherita Spiluttini.

The building has been “abgebaut” in 2001 and removed from Karlsplatz. Not sure where it is now. Werner M.
