I LOVE art deco, and although Thanet Council are making changes, I would like to go back in time and see the Café in all its glory. Anon.

The Sunshine Café was a restaurant that formed part of Margate’s Dreamland Cinema Complex which opened in 1935. It was closed during World War II and had various subsequent incarnations as a cinema, billiard hall, musical hall, bingo hall and play area for children and finally as the Oriental Buffet, before ceasing operations in 2011. The Café itself had ceased operations in 2003. The Dreamland Cinema is a listed building that has been undergoing renovations since its closure. It was used as art exhibition venue in 2019 in conjunction with Turner Contemporary’s hosting of the Turner Prize.
