I went there as a child in the 1960s with my mother and it seemed like such an adventure. Edmund P.

The Lido was an open-air swimming pool located in Valentines Park, a 52 hectare (130 acre) park, south of Gants Hill in Ilford. It was designed by H. Shaw and opened in 1924. It was dug out of a former gravel pit and was part of a scheme to provide work for local unemployed. Despite local petitions to keep it open, it was closed in 1994 and demolished in 1995.
